For houseplants, ornamentals, roses, orchids, bonsai, succulents, buxus (of course), shrubs, hedges, lawn and turf.
How long does one bottle last?
At just 6mls per 1 litre water, one 200ml bottle makes 33 litres of spray or soil drench. Measuring cup included.
Pro tips for better results
You can also follow up treatment with Grosafe FreeFlo Copper and Enspray 99 7 days following treatment with Buxus Blight to treat fungal infestations such as black spot, leaf spot and sooty mold as well as insects like aphids and scale. For best results, for every 1 litres of water, add 6mls Buxus Blight in water (stir), then add 5mls BioPower Seaweed and 5mls Root-Gro (stir), and apply.
What are the signs of root rot?
Pythium and phytophthora are soilborne fungi that can remain dormant in soil until the right conditions arise, preferring moist, low-oxygen conditions. Both can spread in water also, so watch your watering habits (bottom watering multiple plants at once, or plants sharing the same overflow saucers can spread the rot in the water). Fungus gnats can also spread the fungi that cause root rot to other plants nearby.
Pythium is one of two main soil fungi that cause root rot. Pythium root rot is a wet rot that causes roots to turn brown to black, foliage to wilt, leaves to yellow and older leaves to die, sometimes with water-soaked lesions seen at the base of the petiole as pythium can move up and rot the stem or crown of the plant.
Phytophthora root rot appears as wilting in early stages, which doesn't resolve despite the plant being watered, and progresses to permanent wilt. Initial signs start at the base of roots with lesions that progress to wet rot that advances up towards the crown of the plant. Rotting tissue turns brown with a distinctive dark blackish margin where the rot meets healthy tissue.
How do you use Buxus Blight?
DOSE
6ml Buxus Blight per 1 litre water
DIRECTIONS
For BLIGHT and DIEBACK
Prune out the worst affected wood, mix Buxus Blight as per dose above, and spray every 30 days during growing season. Start in spring (aournd September), and continue throughout the growing season (till around March), treating every three to four weeks (once every 30 days).
For added protection treat with FreeFlo Copper 7 days after the first Buxus Blight treatment to treat fungal infestations including black spot, leaf spot and downy mildew.
When spraying, completely cover foliage until point of run-off. Avoid other plants growing within 25cms of the hedge to encourage good air movement. Opening up the hedge structure will help the spray penetrate the canopy.
For ROOT ROT
Step one (optional, for potted plants): Remove plant from pot / soil (if possible), and gently wash roots with water to remove all contaminated soil possible. Cut back dead and rotting plant material (foliage / roots), using sterile tools. If healthy roots remain, dunk the healthy roots in diluted Buxus Blight for a few seconds as per dose above. Repot plant into fresh substrate. Save the solution to use for step two.
Step two (for all plants): Mix Buxus Blight as per dose above and thoroughly spray either foliage only or foliage and soil surface around the plant if healthy roots remain. Repeat spray once a month / once every 30 days, for 3 months. Spray foliage to the point of run-off.
For RUST
In lawn, turf and succulents, dilute Buxus Blight as per dose above. Apply at first signs of rust. Repeat in 4 weeks.
For DOWNY MILDEW (such as in Roses)
Prepare Buxus Blight as per dose above. Spray thoroughly at first signs of mildew. Repeat once a month / every 30 days during Spring (around September to November in NZ).
For TRANSPLANT STRESS
Prepare Buxus Blight as per dose above. Spray or drench to saturate the soil around the roots. Wait a few minutes for the drench to saturate into the soil and reach the roots then plant / repot. Recommended with Grosafe BioPower Seaweed to further reduce transplant stress and aid recovery.
Active ingredient
Buxus Blight contains 400g/litre of phosphorus acid as the mono and di potassium salts as a soluble concentrate.
