Bio Leaf CalSi+ is a unique blend of organic-based minerals providing a source of calcium, magnesium, silicon, ocean minerals and dolomite lime all-in-one.
Calcium
Calcium is an essential nutrient for plants yet the majority of fertilisers have little to no calcium. CalSi+ increases calcium levels to correct calcium deficiencies for plants experiencing symptoms such as:
- curled, cracked leaves,
- premature browning of new growth,
- small, stunted or deformed growth,
- blossom end rot,
- buds that form and fail to flower.
Magnesium
CalSi+ is also a source of magnesium. An essential nutrient for plants. As magnesium is a component of chlorophyll (giving leaves their green colour and necessary for photosynthesis), a magnesium deficiency can show as chlorosis (yellowing), where the leaf yellows but the veins remain green.
If you suspect magnesium deficiency, looks for signs on older and lower leaves first. Unlike calcium, magnesium is a mobile nutrient. When your plant can't get enough via its roots, it will take the magnesium out of older leaves so that new growth survives, leaving yellowing behind. Leaves may also turn reddish, purplish or brownish as the chlorophyll reduces, and foliage will eventually die if the deficiency isn't corrected.
Silicon
Nicknamed 'Nature's Bodyguard', silicon is all about strength. It makes plants physically stronger and also strengthens their defenses against pests. By strengthening weak areas of the plant, silica also helps reduce premature browning of weaker variegated foliage. Not considered essential, because outdoors plants tend to naturally get adequate levels from soil water. However indoors, plants miss out.
What plants is CalSi+ for?
- Indoor and outdoor plants experiencing a deficiency in calcium or magnesium.
- Plants recovering from pests, or prone to pest attack.
- Plants experienced small or slow growth, or no growth.
- Variegated or weaker plants.
- Plants prone to blossom end rot.
How do you apply CalSi+?
A little goes a long way. This 500ml pouch has up to 100 applications (based on a 10cm pot). That's a year's supply for 50 small houseplants. CalSi+ comes in a resealable, stand-up pouch.
For indoor / potted plants: Sprinkle 1 level teaspoon (5 to 6 grams) per 0.75 to 1 litres soil (that's about a standard 10cm to 12cm pot), twice a year.
For larger areas outdoors / gardens: Sprinkle 90mls / 100 grams per square metre, twice a year.
Using a fork, hoe or rake, mix CalSi+ in with the top soil then water as usual. Reapply every 6 months.
How long does CalSi+ take to work?
Being organic-based, allow time for CalSi+ to break down and start working. This natural process can take up to 8 weeks. CalSi+ should be re-applied twice a year (every 6 months).
Testing pH
Lime-based additives (like CalSi+ and Dolomite Lime), can change soil pH. Often used to 'sweeten' soil pH to a range of 5.5 to 6.5, however it's best to test your soil pH before applying.
Safety
Although organic-based, safety precautions are still required. CalSi+ is a fine powder. Wear gloves, a dust mask and eye protection such as safety glasses to avoid the powder getting in your eyes, mouth or on your skin.
