100% sustainably harvested NZ Sphagnum Moss, ready-to-use for all your planty propagation and substrate needs, for cuttings and delicate baby plants, orchids, kokedama, hanging baskets, bare-root shipping, retaining moisture for potted plants that dry out too fast and more.
This is the 10 litre Egmont brand called 'Magic Moss' which is compacted down for easy shipping and storage. One 10 litre pack measures about 15 x 15 x 15cms square.
'Magic Moss' is Sphagnum Moss pre-soaked in natural seaweed extract. Seaweed is a mild yet superb source of over 75 vitamins and minerals for a natural boost in growth and health that plants love, however won't interfere with your use of cloning paste, fertiliser, growth boosters or cloning solution (my picks for each follow below).
This is also the moist form, not dry moss, so is ready to use and doesn't have to go through re-hydration from dry before use.
Can you use sphagnum moss with fertiliser?
Yes, you certainly can, and I do myself with my own jungle. My favourites currently in my plant toolbox are...
For a growth booster: Either Groconut or HB-101 for my jungle. Both are natural. Groconut is a powdered growth booster made from freeze-dried coconut water. I use about a 1/4 teaspoon per litre of water. HB-101 is a liquid growth booster. I use only 1 to 2 drops per litre of water. HB-101 is made from bananas, cyprus, cedar and pine extract, from an old Japanese recipe.
For rooting hormone: For fresh cuttings my go-to is either Clonex or IBAdex. Clonex is a gel. IBAdex is a powder. Either way you dip fresh cuttings in before placing in sphagnum moss. If you're going to make up a cloning solution or use a rooting fertiliser, then Clonex and CCS are made to work together.
For rooting fertiliser: My go-to for watering cuttings in sphagnum moss (and for propagating in water), is CCS made by GT. CCS stands for Clonex Clone Solution, basically a complete and balanced, specialist fertiliser for root initiation and development in cuttings, seedlings and baby plants. It's made to work best when used with Clonex rooting hormone gel. Dip in Clonex then grow in diluted CCS.
For everyday fertiliser: Depending on what's in stock, my favourite is either Dyna-Gro Foliage-Pro, or GT Foliage Focus as safe, gentle, complete and balanced indoor fertilisers without the risk of fertiliser burn. Another favourite is Plant Runner, which is a complete fertiliser that also includes seaweed.
