Yes, these nifty mini trellis are plastic, and about 3mm thick, so they're not as sturdy as the recycled aluminium Botanopia supports, but they are definitely sturdy enough to make great starter supports for all your smaller jungle members - especially for viners and climbers with thinner, flexible stems, like Hoya, Philodendron, Chain of Hearts and more when they're small - and the price is fantastic too!

Plus nice and light so they won't tip over smaller pots. Check out the photos to see my Hoya Krimson Princess who's been loving her trellis (and those leaves are chunky!). Being plastic makes these super budget friendly too. 

I love the art deco vibes of the design, plus there are so many places to clip stems to. Definitely worth getting with either a pack of Hoya Clips for attaching finer stems, or Plant Velcro for thicker stems (Plant Velcro comes in green or black).

Size check

These measure 30cms tall and 8.8cms across the widest point. Just 5.5cm across the bottom too, meaning they fit easily in even the smaller pots, plus being made of plastic they are super light to avoid tipping over smaller pots too. They are nice and thin also, about 3mm thick, so easy to gently slide in to your substrate, without having to repot.

Made of Styrene

These are made of polystyrene plastic, also known as Styrene. Long-lasting, high heat and UV tolerance, and used for everything from kids toys to disposable cutlery.


However please note Styrene is not considered biodegradable and is not recyclable in NZ, so as tempting as the multi-packs are to save some extra pennies, I do hope will only buy what you need right now. Please make sure to reuse or to gift on to your plant besties once your plants outgrow them.
